Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a type of restoration that covers and protects a damaged or compromised tooth. We offer ceramic and porcelain crowns, as well as same-day CEREC crowns that are made for you while you wait in the office. Crowns are made so that they blend in well with the rest of your smile. You may need a crown if your tooth has broken or cracked, or if you have a large filling that’s compromising the integrity of the tooth.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

Crowns can be beneficial for a variety of reasons. They can be placed over virtually any and every tooth in the mouth. Some of the reasons you’ll need a crown include:
  • A tooth has broken or cracked
  • A tooth has a large filling in it
  • You’ve recently had a root canal
  • You have severe sensitivity issues
  • You have an older crown that needs replacement

Who is a good candidate for Dental Crowns?

With the help of an examination, we can help to determine if you might need a dental crown. Because crowns are custom made for each patient, they look completely natural and realistic. We even offer same-day CEREC crowns, which are permanent crowns that are made for you in the office while you wait. This prevents the need for a second appointment to have the permanent restoration put into place.

What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?

We start the process by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area. We then file down the tooth completely to make room for the new crown. For ceramic and porcelain crowns, we’ll take impressions and use these to craft a new crown. For same-day CEREC crowns, a digital impression is taken and put into our CEREC machine to make the crown for you while you wait. The permanent crown is then placed and filed down to improve its fit and feel.

If you think you might need a dental crown, and want to come in for the procedure, call our office today and we can help schedule you with an appointment.
