Root Canals

What are Root Canals?

A root canal is a restorative procedure that involves removing the inner pulp of a tooth. Every single one of your teeth has a small pulp in the very center. This pulp houses the blood supply and nerves essential for the strength and vitality of the tooth. If this pulp becomes infected by decay, or is exposed, it can cause severe pain and sensitivity. When this occurs, it’s recommended to remove the pulp via a root canal.

Why are Root Canals needed?

The most common reason for needing a root canal is because decay was allowed to go down deep into the tooth, reaching the pulp. This often the result of a cavity being ignored and getting worse over time. Another reason one may need a root canal is because a tooth has broken or cracked, exposing the inner pulp. The common signs that you may need a root canal include severe pain, and sensitivity to hot and cold.

I hate going to the dentist, my kids absolutely adamantly refuse to go to the dentists, but Dr Nellie totally changed our perspective! I mean yes customer service is superb, staff is friendly office is sterile and technology is great, but what won us over is how unbelievably painless the whole process was! My daughter who screams bloody murder at the sight of the dentist did not even bat an eye when Dr Nellie put a crown on her broken tooth. She was literally stunned with how quick and smooth the whole procedure went. My teeth are super sensitive and cleaning is a torture for me. I barely felt anything with Dr Nellie, and my teeth are super clean, white and smooth. Absolutely loved the experience at her clinic, and 100% would recommend.

Just had a great experience in Federal Way Dentistry! Came for check up and broken tooth, Dr. Nellie offered me same day crown and like 90 min later I left the office with fixed tooth, new crown and clean teeth! I am really impressed with new technology and knowledge of the stuff! Federal Way Dentistry is my dentistry now.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Root Canals.jpg

Who is a good candidate for Root Canals?

We will perform an examination to determine if you need a root canal. In some cases, an x-ray is needed to determine if the pulp is infected or exposed. If you do need a root canal, we recommend having it done as soon as possible to prevent the pain and sensitivity from getting worse. Root canals are one of the most common dental procedures done by dentists.

What can you expect when having a Root Canal done?

We start by administering local anesthesia to make the procedure comfortable. A rubber dental dam is used to isolate the tooth so that it can be worked on properly. We then remove any decay until we reach the inner pulp. The pulp is fully removed using specialized tools, and the canals of the roots cleaned. A medicated material is poured into the canals of the teeth, and the small hole is filled with composite resin filling material. The filling is cured into place with a bright light, and the rubber dam is removed. You can then leave the office free of pain and sensitivity.

If you think you might need a root canal, call our office today and we will be happy to further assist you in scheduling an appointment.
